Dr. Bowling has completed his 3 year tenure of the NHRMC Orthopedic Department and now announces his transition to chairmanship of the Quality Improvement Committee (HQEP).
Healthcare is rapidly changing and, in my opinion, for the betterment of all. The focus is quickly evolving to a patient-centric ideal with value (not volume) as the metric of success. As chairman, I find myself in a new type of leadership role, leveraging the experience I have garnered in orthopedic healthcare policy locally, regionally and nationally.
It will be during my tenure as chairman that the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) will gain traction for our providers which, undoubtedly, will bring fear and anxiety with the unknown.
In addition, we as an orthopedic community are excited about the opportunity to join with Novant Healthcare to increase access to patients in our community and our region.
Finally, as orthopedic surgeons we find ourselves in a rapidly growing period with new technological advances such as biologics (regenerating failing tissues), robotics for joint replacement and the ever-increasing march towards faster recovery, less pain and minimal downtime. As you can guess, this is wonderful time to release our creative minds, roll up our sleeves and work tirelessly to create a model of new healthcare that will allow us to achieve our goals of healthcare access, unity and excellence.
As chairman, I plan to take this opportunity to lead a dedicated and compassionate group of orthopedic surgeons, as together we lead our community to outstanding health.
