Billing & Insurance

Billing

Insurance is an important part of your healthcare. Our providers participate in most major health plans and worker’s compensation. We are happy to file those claims for you.

We accept Medicare/Medicaid, all commercial carriers, workers compensation and government-issued insurance. If you do not see your insurance listed, please check with your carrier by calling the number on the back of your card. You may also contact our office for assistance. Please be sure to bring your card to your appointment, so we can ensure proper billing. If you do not have insurance, please call our office regarding our self pay policy.

Referrals / Authorizations

Some health insurance plans require the patient obtain an authorization or referral from their primary care provider before seeing a specialist. This is the patient’s responsibility. Please be sure to have this information with you or verify our office has received it prior to your appointment. If the referral/authorization has not been provided, your appointment will be rescheduled unless you elect to sign a waiver accepting financial responsibility for services rendered and not covered due to a lack of authorization/referral.

We make every effort to keep your medical costs down. However, we do require payment for services at the time they are rendered. Patients are responsible for their copayment, coinsurance and/or deductible. We do not bill motor vehicle insurance or other third party liability. This is the patient’s responsibility. For your convenience, we accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and Care Credit. If you have questions about our fees or need to make financial arrangements prior to your appointment, please contact our office at 910.395.8333.

Journey II XR Bi-cruciate Retaining Knee System

The XR is a new concept in knee replacement surgery. Traditional knee replacement designs did not allow for the preservation of the cruciate ligament (ACL), which in the normal knee is responsible for anterior/posterior stability. Without this knee ligament, traditional knee replacement designs have not been kinematically (how the knee functions) normal.

Specifically, the femur (thigh) bone will translate or shift anteriorly on the tibia (leg) bone causing pain and instability in activities such as stairs, squatting or stooping. This has been shown by the fact that on average only 15 % of total knee replacement patients can squat comfortably.

The XR knee system features an anatomically shaped femur (identical to the traditional Journey II knee options) and a new U-shaped tibial component with a mid section of preserved bone (where the ACL/PCL ) attach. This U shape allows for appropriate resurfacing of the worn tibial cartilage without forcing resection of these critical ligaments.

The technique is identical to traditional knee replacement steps and, therefore, does not add time or difficulty to the standard procedure. Our early experience has shown excellent results with respect to patient outcomes, satisfaction and return to activities.
